Berdasarkan cerita di masa lampau, saat perayaan Imlek terdapat sosok monster yang menyerang dan menculik penduduk desa di Tahun baru. Monster tersebut takut dengan tiga hal, yaitu api, kebisingan, dan warna merah. Monster tersebut bisa dikalahkan dengan tiga hal tersebut. Sejak saat itu warna merah dianggap sebagai warna kekuatan dan keberuntungan saat Imlek
Seperti yang dikatakan budayawan sekaligus peneliti, David Kwa, warna merah memiliki makna lambang kebahagiaan. Maka dari itu merah menjadi warna yang selalu ada dalam perayaan Imlek masyarakat Tionghoa.
Batik Tiga Negri di era sekarang
Pada masanya Batik tiga negri hanya diproduksi oleh pengusaha batik Cina di daerah pesisir Jawa. Namun sayang kini batik tiga negri termasuk dalam salah satu kain yang terancam punah. Tercatat diperlukan waktu hingga tiga bulan dalam proses pewarnaan Batik Tiga Negri.
Batik Tiga Negri pun kini berhenti di generasi ketiga anak Tjoa Giok Tjiam, produsen batik tiga negri yang terkenal. Sudahberhenti pada 2014 lalu, alasannya karena sulit mencari pengrajin batik yang baik dan sesuai.
Mungkin hikayat Batik Tiga Negri tidak banyak diketahui generasi muda saat ini. Namun perlu diketahui, dalam sekedar Batik Tiga Negri sarat akan nilai keberagaman dan toleransi.
