Motif kuda melambangkan kepahlawanan, keagungan, dan kebangsawanan karena kuda merupakan simbol harga diri bagi masyarakat Sumba. Motif lain, seperti buaya dan naga menggambarkan kekuatan dan kekuasaan raja, motif ayam melambangkan kehidupan wanita, dan motif burung umumnya kakak tua melambangkan persatuan.
